A cough can be a nuisance and if you thought that a dry cough was irritating you, the wet cough is not going to be great either. Basically a wet cough is a natural reaction of the body to clear the mucus.
In fact, it is highly suggested to get rid of the phlegm that has accumulated in the body rather than suppressing it. So the wet cough should be taken out using home remedies and other natural solutions.
Symptoms Of Wet Cough
Like a dry cough, the wet cough to starts with a bit of irritation and itching in the throat. However, instead of the ticklish feeling, you have the phlegm going up and down the throat, which can be rather irritating too. Some common symptoms include apnea, along with pain in the chest area and pressure. The cough may come out with blood or can be greenish or light brown in color. In babies, cough comes out through the stool and has a greeny, mucus like appearance.
The cause of a wet cough may be an underlying infection or even some sort of inflammation of the organs like the lungs and bronchi. It could lead to severe problems like pneumonia and bronchitis, if not treated on time. Having a lot of cold foods like ice cream or combining hot and cold foods together can trigger off the cough too. Apart from this, cough may be accompanied with the common cold and is a sign of infection.
Types Of Wet Cough
Basically the wet cough is a productive form of cough, which clears the system. However, it can be chronic cough and acute in nature or be mild. This largely depends on how long the cough lasts, the type of mucus that comes out and other related factors. Usually a wet cough goes away in 5-7 days.
