Turmeric has skin lightening and brightening properties. Pineapple is an astringent and anti-inflammatory agent that will help in reducing the puffiness under the eyes. Mix one teaspoon of freshly ground turmeric with a quarter cup of pineapple shreds.
Use a blender for preparing a puree. Apply under the skin and allow it to absorb into the deeper layers for 15 minutes. Rinse and wipe with a cleanser to remove traces of sugar from your skin. Apply a gentle moisturizer after this procedure. Repeat the application twice a day if your skin does not get irritated with pineapple.
One of the most commonly used home remedies for dark circles; potato juice has bleaching properties that help in lightening the skin under the eyes. Grate potatoes and squeeze fresh juice out of it. Soak a cotton ball in it and apply on the eyes. Leave it for 20 minutes. This procedure will help the eyes to relax and remove the tiredness, while it heals the pigmented skin underneath. For better results, you can also mix potato juice with lemon juice and apply under the eyes.

Tomato and lemon have been praised for generations for their skin repairing and beautifying properties. Both have astringent properties and hence help in exfoliating and lightening the skin and removal of dark circles and pigmentation. Take equal amounts of tomato and lemon juice and mix well. Apply under the eyes and massage gently. Let it stay for ten minutes. Rinse off and apply a moisturising lotion to prevent skin dryness.
Rose water is a very cost effective and great natural treatment for skin toning and cleansing. Rose water has been in use for centuries for treating various skin problems and also for treating under eye circles. It can be prepared at home by adding a few rose petals to boiling water and steeping for 15 minutes. The water can be refrigerated and used for application under the eyes. Rose water penetrates deep into the layers underneath the skin and removes the toxins, while it moisturizes and soothes tired eyes and skin. As it is also a toning agent for the skin, it removes under eye puffiness, which sometimes accompanies dark circles.
Tea is rich in antioxidants, which benefits the skin by repairing the damage caused by free radicals. The caffeine in tea bags absorbs the excess water from underneath the eyes and removes eye puffiness. Tea also contains tannin, which is an anti-inflammatory agent as well. For usage, take a moist and used tea bag and refrigerate it until it becomes cool. This can be applied under the eyes and left on for 15 minutes. Black, green or chamomile tea bags are excellent for removing under eye circles and puffiness and also in keeping the skin free from problems.
Mint has an instant cooling and revitalizing effect on your body and skin. It is a known and trusted remedy for skin as well as stomach irritations. Crush fresh mint leaves and make it into a paste. Take some almond oil and apply under the eyes. Massage in a gentle and circular motion for improving absorption. This will remove the dryness of the skin and also increase blood circulation.
Leave the oil on for the entire night and repeat until the dark circles are history. Remember to avoid massaging for more than ten minutes as too much absorption of oil too can lead to puffiness. In the absence of almond oil, one can also use vitamin E for the purpose.
