Joint pain is an ailment that usually troubles people when they reach middle age. It may incapacitate the victim who is otherwise healthy. Joint pains are also seen among the sports persons. When suddenly we have to do heavy work which are we not used to doing, say some chores or exercises, the joint pains may bother any of us. But what is more of concern is that age related joint pains should be nipped in the bud. The herbs have fantastic properties to relieve joint pain.
Fenugreek is a God given herb, its leaves are useful and its seeds are also beneficial. Since the green leaves are not available all through the year and it takes an effort to cook and eat them, it is best to buy seeds and prepare them as a remedy for joint pains.
The green leaves can be cooked like any leafy vegetable in a bit of oil. They are rich sources of nutrients. The seeds can be taken as a paste or whole. Powder and keep the seeds, make a tsp of this paste and eat it. You may soak a tsp of these seeds overnight and drink the water or may cook them in milk. The seeds are warm in potency so, they should not be used in hot summers.
Turmeric powder is used for daily cooking in the eastern countries. So it is a harmless herb to be ingested regularly. To derive maximum benefit you should try to buy fresh, and not the dried, turmeric rhizomes, they look like small sized yellow ginger. Grate 250 g of them and cook them in one liter milk for half an hour or till it dries, add sugar and jiggery and take half a tsp once or twice a day.
Garlic is a safe herb to eat and it can be used to enhance the properties of massage oil. Take 250 ml of sesame or gingely oil heat it up on slow fire, put about 20 to 30 cloves of garlic. Let them be there in the oil till they get charred. You can discard garlic and use this oil for local massage of the affected joints. It is a very beneficial herb to treat joint pains.
Castor plant grows wild in many neighbor hoods. The leaves of this plant have pain relieving properties. The Ayurvedic practitioners use the leaves in two different ways simultaneously. Three or four big leaves are boiled in water for 5 to 10 minutes, leaves are discarded and the water is used in bathing. They heat up fresh leaves and use them as poultice over the affected joints.
Ginger is a culinary delight which is used to season the dishes, made into tea or eaten as an appetizer. Since it is strong, very little of this eaten at a time. One should start using it as a part of regular diet to alleviate the symptoms of joint pains.
Celery is alkaline in potency which helps in rheumatism and gout. It treats the pains from within, it is not just a pain reliever. Celery can be regularly eaten as a part of dressing in salads and flavoring in soups.
