There are many remedies available for treating acne. These remedies do not work like magic. They need time to clear up your skin. Like mentioned earlier, there are many remedies available today for treating acne. Medical treatment of acne involves the use of topical gels and creams along with oral antibiotics. For this reason we recommend the use of herbs for treating acne. The herbs are safe, not very expensive but very effective in the treatment. The best part is that most of the herbs used for treating acne are readily available in our kitchens.
Effective Herbal Remedies For Acne
Turmeric is the favorite herb with people who suffer from various skin conditions including acne. The herb is a rich source of vitamin E and has amazing healing properties. Turmeric is also antifungal and antibacterial, which makes it very effective in the removal of infection causing bacteria from the skin. Hence, turmeric is used for treating acne as well. Teenagers should first try this simple herbal remedy before rushing to a doctor for prescription.
Do not use commercially available turmeric powder (that is used for cooking) for treating acne. Many herbal stores keep white turmeric sticks. Only these should be used for application on the skin. Grind the sticks to a fine powder form and store the powder in an air tight container. Take two teaspoons of turmeric powder and add rose water, lemon water, milk or plain water to it.
Mix the two to form turmeric paste. Cover the acne with the paste (you can use the paste on your face, chest, back and anywhere else you may have acne formation) and leave on for 20 minutes. Wash off using cold water. The treatment can be done at night before going to bed. White turmeric will not leave stains on your clothes and bed sheets. in the morning, wash off the turmeric using warm water. The treatment should be done daily for three weeks.
While many of you may make faces at the mention of garlic but the herb is an excellent remedy for acne. It too has anti-bacterial properties that effectively and completely remove the bad bacteria from the skin. Take 3-4 pods of garlic and peel them. Crush the garlic and mix it with a little rose water (to make the smell bearable or you can even use plain water) to form a paste.
Apply an even layer of the paste over the acne. Use more garlic if you have larger areas to be covered. Once you have applied the garlic all over the acne, leave for 30 minutes. Wash off using medicated soap and warm water. Re-apply after 4 hours. The treatment should be carried out twice a day for three weeks. You will notice a remarkable difference in your skin after three weeks.
Lemon juice is highly acidic in nature and this makes it very beneficial in eliminating the acne causing bacteria from the skin. Mix one tablespoon fresh lemon juice with one teaspoon rose water. Dip a clean cotton cloth in the solution and dab it on the acne covered skin.
Cover the acne skin with lemon juice and leave for 20 minutes. You might experience some stinging if you use the juice undiluted. Wash off with pain water. The treatment should be done twice a day for best results. Lemon juice combined with rose water will also give you an even skin tone.
Onion juice is effective in treating acne but some people are put off by the smell. If you can learn to put up with the smell, you can find your way to a clearer and blemish-free skin. Onion juice is mainly used for evening out the complexion but it also helps in clearing up the acne.
Take a medium sized onion and peel it. Cut the onion into two halves and then rub one half of the onion over the infected skin. Rub the onion on a spot for 2-3 minutes. Then leave the juice on for 15 minutes. Wash off using medicated soap and plain water. Do this twice a day for three weeks for a clearer complexion.
Rose Hip Essential Oil
Rose hip essential oil is a rich source of Vitamin C which is very important for healing the skin and getting rid of the scars. Mix 10ml rose hip oil with 2ml vitamin E oil. Never use any essential oil undiluted as it can cause severe burns. Apply the mix of oils on your skin. Rub the oil well into the skin. Leave the oil on the skin and re-apply the mix again after four hours. Change the quantity of the oils depending on the extent of the areas you want to cover.
This treatment should be done twice a day for 3-4 weeks. Rose hip oil will clear the acne and also help with healing of the skin. Vitamin E oil, on the other hand, will deal with the removal of the scars.
Do not expect overnight results with any of these treatments. Herbal remedies should be used as recommended if you wish to achieve a clean, clear and acne-free skin. If you leave the treatment without completing the stipulated time period, then you may not get the desired results. With acne treatment, one has to be regular and persistent.
